Important Change
Due to a mandated change from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), beginning January 1, 2024, dependents will now remain on your health plan until the end of the plan year in which the dependent turns 26 instead of being removed the first of the month following their 26th birthday.
The 2024 health benefit booklets will be updated to reflect this change.
Dependents turning 26 will receive a dependent cancellation letter at least 30 days before the end of the legal plan year informing them of their cancellation date and the next steps on continuing health insurance.
As set forth in your benefit booklet, you have a fiduciary obligation to notify your employees of this change in your contract’s terms and conditions. This is particularly important given that affected members may expect a cancellation notification at their 26th birthday.
