Cyber Monday is a marketing term for e-commerce transactions on the Monday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It was created by retailers to encourage people to shop online. The term was coined by Ellen Davis of the National Retail Federation and Scott Silverman. The term made its debut on November 28, 2005.
Cyber Monday takes place the Monday after Thanksgiving; the date falls between November 26 and December 2, depending on the year.
This year, Cyber Monday falls on November 28th. I’m not at all convinced that Cyber Monday holds the position it had back in the early 2000’s. Initially, the premise was that the public had access to high-speed internet at work, but not at home. Hence, they used the internet when they returned to work on the Monday after Thanksgiving to do their online shopping.
The Biggest Sales Occurred on Cyber Monday 2020 when many were not at work due to the Pandemic!
The reason the biggest Cyber Monday ever happened in 2020 during the pandemic is simple. Cell Phones with High-Speed Internet! Almost everyone has them. However, once an event like Cyber Monday is created, hyped and perpetuated, it will take on a new life of its own.
