{"id":226,"date":"2014-12-10T13:33:36","date_gmt":"2014-12-10T19:33:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cookco.us\/news\/?p=226"},"modified":"2014-12-10T13:33:36","modified_gmt":"2014-12-10T19:33:36","slug":"mileage-rates-2014-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cookco.us\/news\/mileage-rates-2014-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Mileage Rates for 2014 and 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Internal Revenue Service today issued the 2015 optional standard mileage rates used to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business, charitable, medical or moving purposes.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning on Jan. 1, 2015, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car, van, pickup or panel truck will be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>57.5 cents per mile for business miles driven, up from 56 cents in 2014<\/li>\n<li>23 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes, down half a cent from 2014<\/li>\n<li>14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cookco.us\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/60-corvette.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-227\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cookco.us\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/60-corvette-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"HUA HIN - DECEMBER 19: Chevrolet Corvette Convertible, 1960. The rate for medical and moving purposes is based on the variable costs, such as gas and oil. The charitable rate is set by law.<\/p>\n<p>Taxpayers always have the option of claiming deductions based on the actual costs of using a vehicle rather than the standard mileage rates.<\/p>\n<p>A taxpayer may not use the business standard mileage rate for a vehicle after claiming accelerated depreciation, including the Section 179 expense deduction, on that vehicle.
